How To Use AI Investing In Your Portfolio?

AI Investing

When the AI analyzes the market data to find leads, we call it AI investing. Now the question is- how to do AI investing, and where can you use it?

Today, we use ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and other platforms for multiple niches. However, they are not restricted to planning dates and parties and searching for relevant data.

You can also pick the winning stocks with prompts like “best stocks for highest income dividend” from ChatGPT. But that’s just one example. Let’s see the dynamic range of elementary benefits that you can draw from AI investing.

Importance Of AI In Investing and Trading

Importance Of AI In Investing and Trading

AI investing starts with picking the best stocks as per my preferences. If I want to find the best growth stocks, ChatGPT can do that. It will use its natural sympathetic intelligence to search and analyze stock charts.

At the same time, it will search across brokers’ profiles and other best sources. In the end, you will get the best suggestions.

Alex Koynoff from ATK says that: …….. Retail investors often lack access to sophisticated systems and data, but AI could potentially level the playing field by assisting with the research.”

Steps to Incorporate AI in Your Investing

Steps to Incorporate AI in Your Investing

You must follow some common steps to reap the best results from AI investing. For instance, your investing goals should be sorted. Then, you must decide which robo-investor to choose and why. Your selection must be oriented to your investing motive niche.

1. Understand Your Financial Goals

You may use AI investing to boost your investment returns exponentially. We all know that stock trading is more rewarding than any other form of investment. However, suitable AI algorithms can magnify your power to pick stocks manifold.

You can well understand that it will raise your earnings too.

Importance of knowing your financial goals

Most investors stick to incumbent goals like:

  • Improving finances through immediate gain,
  • Maintaining and improving cash flow and
  • Setting long-term goals

Choosing a suitable investment target also means narrowing the field for finer research. It aids the AI tool to do better research as well. For evidence, if you are looking for long-term investment, you should focus on growth stocks.

As a result, your prompt will be like – 10 best growth stocks in the US market”.

2. Choose Your Investing Method

Robo advisers are the epitome of AI investing. But you must know the entire span of its capabilities. Only then can you decide if you can depend on it to make calls while investing?

Deciding Between Using a Robo-advisor Or Investing on Your Own

In the US, the most popular robo advisers are Wealthfront and Betterment. These apps automate a significant portion of your investing strategies.

It can outline your investing objectives. At the same time, it can optimize your preferred time horizon. It can even calculate your risk tolerance.

In other words, it can create an investing portfolio customized to your needs as an investor. Wait, are you thinking about the risks of the algorithm going wrong?

In that case, the AI tools can create an optimal mix of prospective individual stocks. You may manually choose from the list.

3. Select an Investing Strategy

An investment strategy mainly helps you decide the niche of your preferred stocks.

Determining your investing strategy and utilizing AI to help set it

It’s time you make the critical investing decisions. For that, you need an effective investment strategy.

In other words, it’s time for you to decide the kind of stocks that you want to invest in. You may also allow the robo advisers to make a mix of asset options according to your portfolio.

The end goal is to maintain your profile’s diversity and keep you profitable.

4. Identify Your Investing Tools

There are many investing tools to choose from. Your choice depends on the investment strategy.

Using AI Tools Like Stock Screeners for Stock Selection

For a start, I recommend you use the stock screeners.

The screening AI apps can select the plausible individual stocks for your portfolio.

Wait, you’re a beginner and head over heels already.

I have been in your shoes. So, let me help you.

The stock screeners can help you with the preset screens. You can always use those template screens to get an idea about the stocks you can invest in for good returns.

5. Start Managing Your Portfolio

Once your portfolio is fixated on specific goals, it’s time to manage your entry and exit positions.

Utilizing Automated Tools for Managing Positions and Refining Stock Screen Searches

The entry and exit points of your investments keep changing. It depends on the scale of performance of your preferred stocks.

For instance, tech stocks are highly appreciated stocks in the US market now. So, your entry and exit points will change now.

Further refinement of my stock screening process would be good. I might need to catch up on the better stocks that have emerged in real time. AI tools can do just the job for me.

Types of Financial Data Analyzed by AI

Types of Financial Data Analyzed by AI

We have access to the two most viable kinds of financial data in stock analysis. Firstly, you can analyze the stock charts and determine the best-ranking stocks in real-time. Secondly, you can fundamentally analyze stocks with high prospects.

Fundamental Data Analysis

Now, you can search and analyze any kind of stock fundamentals with AI investing tools.

If you need to know more about fundamental analysis, you may read the blog; ‘Why do you need fundamental analysis of stocks?”

The bigger question is what sort of fundamental documents AI can interpret:

  • Balance sheets
  • Annual reports
  • Assets and liabilities sheet
  • Newsletters and others

Technical Analysis Tools for Trading Decisions

Technical analysis is the real-time analysis of stock charts

There are many apps for technical analysis during AI investing.

But my favorite is TrendSpider. Above all, its stock trading and value prediction features are fantastic.

The highly sophisticated AI algorithm of TrendSpider can do rigorous research using charts and technical signs.

Its algorithm is most suited for NASDAQ and NYSE stock charts.

Suitability of AI Investing for Beginners

Suitability of AI Investing for Beginners

I’d say AI investing is the best option for beginners.

However, you’ve got to be a stock nerd too. Keeping track of the stock market will assist you in making the right investment strategy.

Robo-advisors as a beginner-friendly option

Robo advisers are suitable for beginners for a reason. Firstly, these tools are more intuitive than technical. So, it will track and study your inclinations and motives while investing. At the same time, it will search the vast canvas to filter the stocks that suit your investment needs.

Benefits of AI tools like stock screeners for beginners

The stock screening tools create a preset diverse stock portfolio. That would help you get going in the beginning.

Investing in AI Stocks

Investing in AI Stocks

In the US market, around 22% of companies are investing in pursuing AI integration across their products and services. At the same time, 33% of the SU companies have integrated AI into their operations.

What does it mean for you?

In simple words, it is the best time to start investing in AI companies’ stocks.

Categories of AI stocks: blue-chip tech companies and small AI developers

The blue-chip companies are tried and tested in the stock market. Equity investors are confident that these stocks will give high returns.

These are also relatively safe investments and offer better returns in the long run.

Presently, the top 5 blue chip stocks in the US market would be:

  • Verizon
  • Realty Income Corp
  • McDonald’s Corp
  • American Water
  • Johnson and Johnson

You may invest in the smaller companies too. These companies are working on experimental projects for innovative AI development. So, there is a chance that these stocks will be highly appreciated in the market soon.

Considerations when investing in AI stocks

I urge all investors to do a correct risk profile analysis before investing in AI stocks.

Sudden regulatory changes, economic downturns, and other misc. factors can impact the value of these stocks.

At the same time, you must evaluate the growth potential of individual stocks or the preferred stock suggested by AI.

How to find and invest in AI ETFs?

ETFs invest in a composite multi-stock portfolio that significantly impacts your profile. At the same time, it reduces the risk of investing in individual stocks.

The ETFs track AI stock indices like Indxx, CTA, and others.

Most AI-exposed ETFs will have AI in their names.

Conclusion

You can use AI investing to process sumptuous market data in a jiffy. So you can make better real-time investment decisions. At the same time, you can make sharper investment decisions by tracking the best stocks.

Always remember to create an investment strategy and have a purpose to invest.

You can use AI investing tools even if you are a beginner. However, you must perform an in-depth risk analysis and detect stocks with the highest chances of potential returns.  I believe that AI tools will make market analysis and scoping the best stocks easier in the future.

Inventory Reserve

Inventory Reserve: What Is It, How It Works, Purpose, and Usage

Whether it is a big company or a small one, a successful company or a not-so-successful one, all face a situation where all the inventories are not sold. Some percentages of the inventory go bad or become obsolete for all. The inventory reserve of the business is and accounting technique and is also the estimate of the percentage of inventory that is unsold. The inventory reserve plays a big role in correctly valuing the inventory of the company. Hence, this also helps present a full picture of the company’s health, financial worth, and flexibility. In this article, you will learn about inventory reserve and how it works in the process of accounting. Apart from that, we will also explain the use of inventory reserve in accounting. Finally, we will show you the process of accounting for the inventory reserve of a business. What Is An Inventory Reserve? According to Investopedia, “An inventory reserve is a contra asset account on a company's balance sheet made in anticipation of inventory that will not be able to be sold. Every year, a company has an inventory that will not be able to be sold for various reasons. It may spoil, fall out of fashion, or become technologically obsolete. In anticipation of this, the company will create an entry on the balance sheet called inventory reserve.” The inventory reserve portion in the balance sheet consists of the company’s prediction of the inventory that will not be sold that year. While the company counts its inventory as an asset, it considers its inventory reserve as a contra asset. This is because the latter reduces the net amount of inventory assets of the company. The company creates the inventory reserve as an estimate of the company’s future inventory spoilage. The company brings out this estimation based on its past experiences. Furthermore, once the company identifies an inventory that it's unable to sell, it writes it down as an official recognition of the loss. Business managers of an organization use these data from previous years' inventory information. Hence, based on this, they make a judgment and decide on the size of the inventory reserve. What Is The Use Of An Inventory Reserve In Accounting? In general, businesses want to get an accurate picture of their inventory position. Hence, they try to estimate the amount of inventory that is not to be sold from the end of the company. This inventory which the company has written off is called the inventory reserve of the company. The accountant includes this data in the balance sheet. According to NetSuite.com, “Companies own raw materials, partially completed products, and finished goods. These items are all included in a company’s gross inventory. Business managers know that not all of their raw materials will be used, and not all of their finished goods will be sold. That reserve is deducted from the value of gross inventories to arrive at the company’s net inventory position. Net inventory is typically what appears on a company’s balance sheet.” During the accounting process, the business considers its inventory reserve as a “contra” asset in its balance sheet. This is because this amount actually reduces the gross inventory value to arrive at the company’s net inventory value. Since inventory accounts come naturally with a debit balance, as debit increases in the balance sheet, the inventory account value increases. On the other hand, inventory reserves, like contra-asset accounts, come with natural credit balances. Hence, the latter serves to reduce the value of the assets. How Does An Inventory Reserve Work? Indeed.com explains – “An inventory reserve in accounting is an entry on a business's balance sheet that anticipates the company's unsold inventory. Accountants consider inventory as an asset on their balance sheet. An asset is any item or resource that a company owns and has the potential to generate economic value, such as revenue.” Inventory also falls under this asset category. Also, as per the need for good accounting principles, businesses need to report their assets in such a way that they are close to their actual value. Hence, if a business wants to calculate the net value of its inventory, it needs to account for the loss of inventory and make it an estimate. As per Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), an inventory reserve is a part of inventory accounting. If a business wants to track its inventory reserve, it will thus be able to make an accurate representation of its assets on the balance sheet. The usefulness of an asset is only when it has a future value to the business. There is always a part of the inventory of a company that remains unsold every year. Hence, the company decides not to include the entire inventory amount as an asset on the balance sheet. To create an accurate value, the company subtracts the inventory contra asset account value from the inventory asset entry. The resulting value is the estimate that the company will sell to create value for the business. If the company does not include the inventory reserve entry, the company will end up overstating the value of its assets. Accounting For Inventory Reserves: Special Considerations According to GAAP standards (which is the industry standard for accounting), inventory reserve is a conservative methodology for entry. This is because the company's attempt, in this case, is to predict the losses for the inventory even before the company has confirmed the loss. In general, inventories consist of goods with future value for the company. Hence, these goods are called assets. However, according to conservative accounting principles, it is important to report assets close to their current value. Hence, it gets easier for the company to make estimations. Summing Up Hope this article was helpful for you in getting a better understanding of how an inventory reserve works with accounting. You can see from here that it is important for the company to consider inventory reserve as a contra asset. This helps the company to get an accurate representation of the assets that it will sell in the future. Do you have more information to add regarding inventory reserve? Contribution Margin

Contribution Margin: What Is It, Overview, Examples, And More

Businesses use the contribution margin to measure how profitable it is to produce a product. Here, the business finds out how much revenue is left after the deduction of variable costs like transportation expenses and raw materials. A product is only profitable if the left-over revenue, after the deduction of variable costs, is higher than the fixed costs (insurance and salaries) of the business. In this article, you will learn about what contribution margin is and how it helps to measure the profit of a company. In addition to this, we will also share with you the formula for contribution margin and how to calculate using that formula. In the latter case, we will explain with the help of an example. You will also learn the uses of contribution margins in business. Finally, we will discuss some ways to improve this margin for businesses. What Is The Contribution Margin? According to Investopedia, “The contribution margin can be stated on a gross or per-unit basis. It represents the incremental money generated for each product/unit sold after deducting the variable portion of the firm's costs. The contribution margin is computed as the selling price per unit minus the variable cost per unit.” The term contribution margin is also known as dollar contribution per unit. The factor also helps the business to measure how much a particular product contributes to a company’s overall profit. The measure helps in getting an idea of the profit potential of a particular product that the company offers. Apart from that, it also helps in showing the portion of sales with the help of which the company is covering its fixed costs. After the company has covered all its fixed costs, the amount left is the profit that the company made in the given timeframe. Read More: Market Orientation – What Is It, And How Does It Work? How To Calculate The Contribution Margin? To calculate the contribution margin of a business, you will first need to calculate the sales revenue of the business. Then, you will need to subtract the variable costs of the business from the sales revenue. The amount that is left is used to cover the company’s fixed costs. Some of the major examples of fixed costs include rent, salaries, insurance, etc.  This resultant amount that the company is using to fulfill the fixed costs is the contribution margin of the company. Here is the formula for the contribution margin of a company: Contribution Margin = Net Sales Revenue of the business - Variable Costs of the businessOr,Contribution Margin = Fixed Costs of the business + Net Income of the business Here is the formula for the contribution margin ratio: Contribution Margin Ratio = (Net Sales Revenue of the business - Variable Costs) / (Sales revenue of the business) A Simple Example Of The Contribution Margin You can understand the contribution margin here with the help of a simple example - A Machine for manufacturing pencils is priced at $10,000. (Fixed Cost) The cost of manufacturing one pencil requires $0.2 of wood, pigment, color, etc. The electricity charges that go for manufacturing one pencil is $0.1. The labor charge is $0.3 for manufacturing one pencil. Therefore, the variable cost for manufacturing one pencil = $ (0.2+0.1+0.3) = $0.6 per pencil. So, the cost of manufacturing 10,000 pencils = $0.6 x 10,000 = $6,000. Hence, the total manufacturing cost = the variable cost + fixed cost = $6,000 + $10,000 = $16,000. Therefore, the cost of one pencil = $16,000 / 10,000 = $1.6. Hence, if the selling price of one pencil is $2, then profit  = $2 - $1.6 = $0.4 per pencil. However, to measure contribution costs, we will need to consider only variable costs. Therefore, the incremental profit = $2 - $0.6 = $1.4 per pencil. What Are The Uses And Applications Of Contribution Margin? According to the Corporate Finance Institute, “It is important to assess the contribution margin for break-even or target income analysis. [...] To resolve bottlenecks, contribution margin can be used to decide which products offered by the business are more profitable and, therefore, more advantageous to produce, given limited resources. Preference is given to products that provide a high contribution margin.” Hence, businesses can use this to find out those products that bring the highest profits despite consuming the same set of manufacturing resources. Let’s say a company manufactures two types of pencils. The one that brings the highest profit will be given the higher production preference. This also helps the management to allocate resources in the most efficient manner. How To Improve Contribution Margin? According to TheForage.com, “The more revenue available after variable costs are covered, the better, especially considering how expensive fixed expenses like rent and salaries can be. At the very least, a product must have a positive contribution margin to be worth producing. So, even if the product isn’t that profitable, the company can break even as long as the margin is high enough to cover fixed expenses.” In addition to this, a business can also improve its contribution margins if it adjusts its production costs and considers making its processes more efficient. The company can also reduce its variable costs, such as by lowering the expenses of factors like shipping and marketing. The company can reduce costs by choosing better and more affordable alternatives. Apart from that, the company can also find ways to improve its revenues. However, these need to be done with care, as improper implementation can backfire for the company. Read More: Market Cannibalization – Definition, How Does It Work, Example, And More Wrapping Up Hope this article was helpful for you to understand the concept of contribution margin. You can see from this article that the contribution margin is nothing but the portion of a product’s sales revenue, which is not taken up by variable costs. Hence, this left-over value contributes to the fixed costs of the company. Companies that are labor-intensive (the ones with small fixed expenses) have low contribution margins. On the other hand, the ones that are capital-intensive, such as industrial companies with higher fixed costs, have high contribution margins. How To Choose The Right Stocks: Tips For New Investors

Fundamental and technical analysis are two common methods for identifying and picking stocks.   Fundamental analysis examines a company's business and industry conditions to identify stocks with strong growth potential at a good price, typically used for longer-term trades.   Technical analysis, on the other hand, identifies statistical patterns on stock charts to predict future price and volume moves, typically used for shorter-term trades.  Beginners in the stock market can find it intimidating. However, understanding basic trading and understanding how to buy share online can make it easier.   Various methods, like attending financial events or using online platforms, can help pick stocks.   Therefore, investors with a long-term horizon have an advantage over Wall Street's short-term focus, making informed decisions.  This article will help you with effective tips and strategies for selecting the best stocks.  Tips To Choose The Right Stocks  Here are some of the top tips that can help you pick the right stocks for your investment—  1. Finalize Your Goal  Every investor comes with unique goals for their portfolios.   However, most young investors aim to increase their portfolios over time. Older ones, on the other hand, focus on capital preservation as they near retirement.   Also, some investors are more interested in generating regular income through dividends and distributions.   Nevertheless, considering your goals when investing is important, as there are no rules.  For income investors, look for stocks with good dividend yields and cash flow to support those dividends. Younger companies with promising revenue growth but unstable earnings are attractive to growth investors.   For capital preservation investors, look for stalwart businesses with steady and predictable profits.   Therefore, it's important to consider your age and goals when selecting companies to invest in.  2. Understand The Business Where You Invest  When buying stock, you become a partial owner of a business. Therefore, without understanding the business, you risk failure.   Trusting yourself to own a company fully means you need help understanding that more than appointing great management is necessary to ensure their performance.   You can find competing companies everywhere, and they can impact you indirectly.   For example, when you buy medicine at a pharmacy, you know who makes the equipment and who buys the spare parts.   When you get a car fixed, you know who makes the spare parts and who makes the spare parts.   Therefore, using these companies as a starting point for research and finding competitors in each industry can help you understand how a business makes money.   If you need to understand how a business makes money fully, you may need to research or find a different company.  3. Evaluate The Market Before Investing  Before adding a position, consider the broader market's movement, as 75% of stocks move with it.   Moreover, buying stocks when the market is trending increases the chances of successful trades.   The moving average of a major index, such as the S&P 500® Index, can show market momentum.   Therefore, potential events like Federal Reserve policy meetings or earnings announcements should be considered. These events can affect your trading.   Thus, following the market closely and investing when the market is trending up can increase your chances of success.  4. Determine A Fair Price  Investors should consider various metrics to assess a stock's current price and value. These metrics include the following:  Price-to-earnings ratio (PE).  Price-to-sales ratio (PS).  Discounted cash flow modeling.  Dividend yield.   The PE ratio is suitable for established companies with steady profits and growth, while the PS ratio is more suitable for growth stocks with unstable earnings. Historical averages can be a good guide, but future expectations should be considered.   Next, discounted cash flow modeling involves estimating revenue growth, profit margin, and expenses for the next few years. Consequently, these factors are discounted by the required rate of return and divided by the number of outstanding shares.   Dividend yield is also crucial, as an above-average yield may indicate a good stock price. Investors should avoid yield traps and develop their own dividend discount model.  5. Maintain Your Safety Margin  To ensure successful stock picking, buying companies trading below your estimate for a fair price, known as your margin of safety, is crucial.   This helps prevent losses if your valuation needs to be corrected. A 10% margin of safety is sufficient for stable earnings and a strong outlook.   For growth stocks with less predictable earnings, a wider margin of safety of 15% to 30% is recommended. This ensures protection in unexpected events, such as a new challenge or a larger company entering the market.   It is not necessary to get the lowest possible price for a stock; trust your research and take the price when it looks good. Building a diversified portfolio of stock picks across various sectors can lead to winning investments.  Technical Signals When Selecting Stocks  Technical analysis is a crucial tool for stock selection, consisting of three steps:   Stock screening.  Chart scanning.  Setting up the trade.   Stock screening involves identifying a list of 20-25 candidates using technical criteria narrowing it down to three or four candidates by scanning the charts.   Moreover, the chosen candidate may be considered trading after a detailed chart analysis. To set up a screen, consider factors such as price and market capitalization, sectors and industries, and momentum.   Long-term investors look for strong sectors and industry groups, while short-term investors should look for weak ones.   Momentum traders typically identify strong, uptrending stocks for buys and weak, down-trending stocks for shorts.   After compiling a list of candidates, look for those with good entry points, such as breakouts or pullbacks.  The Virtual World Of Stocks  Online investing is popular for many investors due to its ease of use, commission-free trading, and easy-to-use platforms.   Moreover, opening a brokerage account with an online broker takes only a few minutes and requires basic personal information.   Funding can be done through a check or electronic transfer. Online trading allows trading dividends, tech, and other stocks, with options available for a small fee.   However, penny stocks, defined by the SEC as those selling for less than $5 per share, should be viewed with caution due to their volatility and potential for manipulation.   It is essential to research the company's business before making a decision to invest in online trading.  Read Also: Simple Tips To Diversify Your Stock Portfolio Backorder Vs Out Of Stock: Essential Things To Know About It
